The Island, Elizabeth Quay

The Island, Elizabeth Quay

If youโ€™re visiting the ever-changing Elizabeth Quay and are looking for a place to eat, casual family restaurant The Island is well worth stopping at. Previously known as โ€œIsle of Voyageโ€, the spot found on Elizabeth Quayโ€™s โ€œislandโ€ is now home to a microbrewery, restaurant, garden bar and pizzeria. We were enjoying a day seeing the sights of Elizabeth Quay with our family after arriving on the ferry from South Perth and stopped by for a spot of lunch.

The Island, Elizabeth Quay

The Island is found in the iconicโ€ฏFlorenceโ€ฏHummerstonโ€ฏKiosk. For years this 1920โ€™s tea room lived on the grassy Perth Esplanade. You may remember it has been home to Annabellaโ€™s Nightclub in the late 1970โ€™s, as well as some restaurants over the years. When it was time for the Esplanade to be dug up to make way for Elizabeth Quay, the heritage listed building was carefully taken down, brick by brick and then lovingly re-built and restored on the โ€œislandโ€ at Elizabeth Quay.

Theโ€ฏbright and airy restaurant has amazing views over the quayโ€ฏto the Perth city skyline. Inside The Island, the dining space is lovely, with crisp white heritage features and vibrant floral prints.

Beer lovers will also notice that the beer is brewed up in the roof!

We managed to snag the last table outside, to enjoy the amazing view. The menu has lots of favourites to enjoy – share platters, wood fired pizzas, salads, burgers and more.

The Food

I enjoyed grilled fish and chips ($26), which is also available beer battered. The West Australian fish fillet is served with lemon, tartare sauce and rustic fries.

My husband loved the Tasmanian salmon nicoise ($24). The plate was packed with confit salmon, green beans, marble potato, pickled shallots, eggs, anchovies, lettuce, olives, heirloom tomatoes, rocket and a simple lemon dressing.

We had our grandson in tow, and he was very happy with his kidโ€™s fish and chips. High chairs are available for little ones, as well as colouring in sheets. The restaurant is also right next to the brilliant Elizabeth Quay Playground.

We all enjoyed our lunch at The Island. I found the food fresh, tasty and well-priced. It would be a great spot to take guests visiting Perth too. The Island has a friendly atmosphere and great views, so Iโ€™d absolutely return.
