Globe Bar, Perth

Once the 1880โ€™s Globe Hotel, the Globe Bar is one of Perth CBDโ€™s most popular watering holes.

Easily reached from the train and bus station in Wellington Street, from the back of Perth Underground or from laneways off Hay and Williams Streets, the Globe has managed to retain local custom in the face of the many new small bar openings in the last few years.

A large beer garden, split into several more intimate areas, dominates the pub allowing customers to sit in the sun and enjoy a refreshing meal or drink just yards away from the busy CBD.

My husband and I decided on both โ€“ for our lunch we picked the fish and chips with garden salad and tartare sauce ($28) as well as a couple of Margaret River wines.

Also on the menu were the usual suspects of cheeseburger enlivened with Sriracha mayo ($22), a steak sandwich with bacon, cheese, egg, beetroot and salad as well as chips ($27) and Chicken Parmigiana ($28). The Globe does a good take on the traditional Ploughmanโ€™s lunch โ€“ a sharing platter for $40 โ€“ Molloyโ€™s Board, consisting of cured meats, hard and soft cheeses, olives, duck parfait, blood orange butter and toasted sourdough. Meals for the grandkids are also available โ€“ chicken nuggets with chips or fish and chips for $12 and spaghetti ($10). Steak is available for $25 on Sundays and Mondays and the price includes a beer or a glass of wine.

Our fish and chips meals were huge and one would easily have fed both of us! The crispy batter was very tasty and not the least bit soggy which is the downfall of many pubs.

The Globe really is a nice place for winding down after shopping in the city โ€“ the age group is mixed ranging from young adults to lots of seniors, the staff is friendly, prompt with service and even for pub grub, the food is fine.
