That’s the dictionary definition of the word ‘home’ and the philosophy of the owners of Home Coffee Bar in Ocean Reef. Staff members have really taken this mantra on board and each one is welcoming and friendly as well as being efficient.
Opened in 2021, in the Ocean Reef Shopping Centre on Marina Boulevard, Home Coffee Bar has a loyal, local following and is definitely one of these hidden gems that we all like to find.
Home caters for those looking for quick caffeine fix, for morning coffee with friends and also has a short but good brunch menu.
I visited Home late on a weekday morning and it was still quite busy. There is a large, airy deck area that has a distant yet good view of the Indian Ocean. Beach style white tables and chairs add to the fresh, relaxed and laid-back vibe. It was very pleasant to sit outside in the winter sun enjoying a leisurely breakfast and a very good cup of tea.
Home’s menu has all the usual items such as Free-range eggs on toast ($15), a Big breakfast ($24) and Banana bread with mascarpone and maple syrup ($7). But there are also some interesting additions such as a Coconut yoghurt pannacotta ($17) and a Chocolate Brownie Waffle ($19). Home also a chiller cabinet with cakes, sandwiches and croissants available.
I ordered a favourite – Smashed Avo ($23) for my late breakfast. The avo came with a few surprises. Although I felt that there was too much rocket on the plate, the sweet corn, feta, a very tasty cherry tomato salsa and a very good basil pangrattato made it a dish to remember. The eggs were poached well and still runny. The avo mixture was also tasty and served on ciabatta bread instead of the hard ciabatta toast that most cafes produce.
If you are in the area, don’t miss a visit to the Home Coffee Bar. I can’t believe that it has been open for a year and I didn’t know about it!
