Lazing on a Sunday afternoon in the Swan Valley enjoying the sunshine food and wine – we are so lucky to live in Perth and have this on our doorstep.
My husband and I have several favourite winery restaurants that we tend to go to all the time but decided to give another restaurant a try.
Pinelli Estate restaurant was our choice and it was a good decision.
On Benara Road just off West Swan Road, it was obvious that Pinelli had been ‘found’ by lots of people. There were several large groups and no spare tables. We were slightly concerned that having large groups would mean slow service but no – service was good, friendly and very timely.
Paying a slight nod to our ongoing diet, we decided to only have a main course although the sight of the next table tucking into a huge Tiramisu ($10) nearly derailed our good intentions!
My husband went for the Garlic Prawns (main $32) while I opted for one of the specials – Pork Belly ($30). Lots of prawns with bread for mopping up the delicious sauce really pleased my husband. My pork belly had richly crusted crackling but I felt that it was slightly overcooked. The accompanying small potatoes and apple slaw were very good as was the glass of Estate SBS ($8). As my husband is in the midst of Dry July, he settled for a Coke Zero ($3.50).
The restaurant is small inside but has two sheltered areas for outside dining. Seating is comfortable and enough space is left between tables. There is an accessible toilet on the premises as well as Acrod parking.
Do pay a visit to the Cellar Door after enjoying the restaurant. We did and took home a couple of Pinelli wines. Robert Pinelli was on duty at the Cellar Door and he was friendly and happy to talk about the Estate’s history. Domenic Pinelli and his wife emigrated to Australia from Italy in the 1950s. After more than 20 years in the Australian wine industry, Domenic bought and established Pinelli wines. The on-site restaurant was originally leased however the Pinelli family (Domenic and his sons) took it over in 2018 and it, as well as the winemaking, has been very successful.
