The Jo Wheatley All Abilities Play Space is an amazing new park that has been purpose built for all ages and abilities โ and itโs not just for childrenโฆThere is even equipment for seniors! The Senior Park at Jo Wheatley All Abilities Play Space in Dalkeith is similar to an outdoor gym. It features a range of equipment (like balance beams, core twisters, wave bars and more) to improve the bodyโs balance as well as strengthen motor skills.
The twelve exercises are designed to gently move all areas of your body.
There’s balance beams, with rails for extra support.
Shoulder wheel is to help improve the mobility of your neck and shoulders.
Finger stair exercises for fine motor skills development.
We visited during the school holidays and there were a lot of kids about, some playing on the seniorโs equipment. I had to chat with a couple who didnโt want to give me a turn on the bike, by asking them to give me a demonstration, then suggesting to them to see if I could do it too โ it worked!
There is a games area with two ping pong tables, so be sure to bring your bats and a ball.
If you take along grandchildren to the park, they will love the water and sand play area, swings, musical instruments, slides, and more! It is fully fenced and gated, to stop any wandering toddlers getting close to the road or Swan River. The greater play space has been designed with wheelchair access throughout. For children with disabilities there is a whole host of play equipment they can enjoy, including a wheelchair accessible roundabout, a buddy rocker, swings with extra support, as well as a play fort accessible by a wide ramp. The flying foxes are very popular with the kids.
As is the fantastic climbing frame.
There are toilets at the playground, found right next to the senior area, as well as picnic tables, drink fountains and lots of natural shade from the mature trees.
Take a picnic along, or visit a tasty cafรฉ nearby. We like Bayside Kitchen on the Swan River and also The Local on Waratah.
The Senior Park at Jo Wheatley All Abilities Play Space all designed to enhance physical and mental well-being. Be sure to try it out!
Jo Wheatley All Abilities Play Space is found at Beaton Park, The Esplanade, Dalkeith.
