Swansea Street Markets, Vic Park

Swansea Street Markets

Post morning swim today I nipped round the corner to Swansea Street Markets in Vic Park to investigate the newly reopened grocery department.

This has been closed for the past few months as I believe the land was bought by developers.

However, it may well be developed in the future but meanwhile Swansea Street Markets are here to stay which is very good news.

Swansea Street Markets

The grocery department has had a facelift and is stocked with the usual fabulous selection of pastas, pickles, coffee, tomatoes and sauces, similar to those youโ€™d find at the Re store but less expensive.

The loose produce of flours, grains, pulses and spices is back, along with a good variety of fruit and vegetables.

They also stock bread from โ€˜Bread in commonโ€™ along with frozen items and a good selection of deli goods including one of my favourite chorizos to be found in Australia which actually tastes like the chorizo youโ€™d find in Spain.

I bought a kilo of beautiful lemons for just $4.99, some of my favourite pickled onions for a dollar cheaper than where Iโ€™ve bought them before, and at the deli, a nice creamy slightly stinky soft cheese.

The butcherโ€™s shop Swansea St Meats is still open, as is Delissimo Continental Deli.

Delissimo Continental Deli is brilliant for all manner of deli products, pรขtisserie and pies; friendly staff too which is always a bonus.

They also do a roaring trade in Conti rolls, toasties, wraps and croissants.

Today I went for a Conti bowl as Iโ€™m trying to reduce my carb intake on account of currently being plumper than Iโ€™ve ever been!

My bowl was huge and only $8. There was so much meat, and cheese I could only manage half, it was packed with all the good stuff too and not just a few bits on top of a heap of leaves.
