The Orchard Perth, Chittering

Situated just 45 minutes from Perth, in the beautiful Chittering Valley, The Orchard Perth offers year round fruit picking experiences and Gourmet Picnics At The Orchard.

The Orchard Perth (previously Golden Grove Citrus Orchard) was one of the first orchards planted in the region and has been open to the public for fruit picking, since 1978. Its previous owners, Rocco and Connie Zampogna bought it as a neglected citrus orchard and turned it into a must-do for locals and visitors alike. The orchard has recently welcomed new owners who have introduced new elements including tractor rides, petting farm, nature playground, alongside the traditional fruit picking, making it a fun day out for the whole family!

The Orchard Perth has around 10,000 citrus trees spread over its beautiful orchards. With so many varieties, such as Oranges, Lemons, Limes, Mandarines and Grapefruits, there is something to pick all year round!

. You can visit the Orchard to enjoy the delights of the rustic cafe or make a purchase from the Packing Shed, which offers a range of jams, chutneys and pickles from other local suppliers. If you wish to pick your own fruit you must book on to one of their popular Orchard Tractor Tours.

The tours run 4 times a day at 10am, 11.30am, 1.30pm and 3pm with a maximum of 20 people on each tour. You are invited to take your seat in a custom made passenger trailer. The trailer is covered so it keeps out the rain and provides shade from the sun. The ride can get quite bumpy as the tractor pulls you up the hill and into the orchards that overlook the Chittering Valley.

The tractor tour takes about an hour. Your friendly farmer guide provides you with information about the citrus trees, growing seasons and the different varieties of fruit. During winter and spring (peak season for citrus harvest) there are six varieties of Navel oranges. Other citrus varieties include Lemons, Limes, Grapefruits and Mandarins (several varieties). Oranges are grown the whole year but mandarins between May and October only.

As part of the tour you can eat as much fruit as you wish directly from the tree. If you would like to take any fruit home with you that you have picked you will be given a bucket at the start of the tour that you can fill. A maximum of 5kg per person can be picked and paid for in the Packing Shed at the end of the tour.

We would recommend wearing sturdy shoes as the banks of the orchard are quite steep and if you visit during the wetter months as the ground can be quite muddy and slippy.

Once you return to the Orchard the fun doesn’t stop there. You are invited into the Packing Shed to taste the freshly squeezed 100% orange juice with fruit from the orchard. It was so good! You can purchase their fresh orange juice, lemon squash and lemon and lime bitters to take home with you.

If you are visiting with children they will love spending some time in the animal enclosure. Golden Grove Orchard is home to friendly Sheep, Goats, Cows, Alpacas, Ponies, Chickens, Peacocks and Guinea Pigs.
