Calling all BBQ lovers! Hop in the car and drive south for a culinary journey to Mandurah. There’s a real hidden gem found in the Lake Clifton bushland, close to the famous thrombolites. Thorny Devil Brewery has a rustic vibe, offering up their brews, and top-notch barbecue dishes.
If you happen to find yourself near Lake Clifton be sure to drop by the brewery. Perhaps you’re on a road trip on your way to the southwest, or exploring the renowned Mandurah thrombolite reef (a mere 250m stroll from the brewery), or even on the lookout for Thomas Damboโs Giants? Either way, be sure to treat your taste buds at Thorny Devil.
Thorny Devil Brewery has a warm, welcoming atmosphere set amidst five acres of grounds. We sat under the covered patio, which was busy, but not too closely packed.
Here American-style barbecue, along with an extensive line up of beers, are as bold and distinctive as the Australian reptile that lends its name to the brewery. Thorny Devil Brewery’ collaborated with Danish artist Thomas Dambo during his Giants installation in Mandurah. Inspired by this partnership, the brewery crafted the “official beer of the giants” โ a Danish pilsner. Thomas and his team frequented the brewery while working on one of the giants, which is found nearby in a secret location (approximately a 3km return bushwalk).
