Hillarys Boat Harbour has been a popular place to spend the day in Perth for the past few decades. The seaside spot is compact and flat, making it a great place for a wander around the attractions, shops, manicured parklands and beautiful beach – and the parking is FREE. Eating at Hillarys Boat Harbour
Hillarys Boat Harbour is a brilliant spot to meet up with friends for a coffee and cake. San Churro is the best place for a hot chocolate and churros (Spanish doughnuts) or something else from their tempting chocolate range.
Dome enjoys a lovely water view. Another great spot for coffee and cake is the Purple Goat.
Looking for brunch or lunch? The Local Shack is a good spot for burger lovers, and those after a casual feed. There’s lots of board games to enjoy here too. Little C’s is popular for a gourmet pizza. 3 Sheets has been a firm favourite at Hillarys Boat Harbour since it opened some years ago. Great for groups, the menu is full of crowd pleasers from ribs and pizza to salads and more. Or how about a quick takeaway to enjoy on a picnic rug? There’s plenty to choose from – Subway, Nandos, fish and chips… Or why not treat yourself at Ishka, upstairs at The Breakwater, the options are endless.
Things to do at Hillarys Boat Harbour
There’s so much to do at Hillarys Boat Harbour, it’s easy to spend the whole day. The sheltered beach is ideal for a paddle and there’s lots of shade provided on the white sand, as well as a little playground for grandkids.
If you love the underwater world, be sure to spend a few hours at AQWA (The Aquarium of WA). Here there’s so many different species of fish and marine life that are found in the oceans all around Western Australia. The huge underground walk through aquarium is not to be missed and is full of impressive sting rays, sharks, turtles and much more. AQWA is a great attraction to take visitors to Perth, as well as grandkids.
Hillarys Boat Harbour is also a handy departure point if you’re heading on a trip to Rotto. Rottnest Fast Ferries are true to their name and get you to the holiday island in around 40 minutes. The comfortable ferry company also offers whale watching tours in migration season.
The green, manicured grounds of Hillarys Boat Harbour also make for a lovely setting for a picnic or BBQ get together. Throw down a rug and bring along a hamper of goodies to enjoy (or cheat and grab take away fish and chips!). There are also plenty of shelters and tables at the northern part of the grassed area.
Shopping
Sorrento Quay is full of shops of all kinds, from clothing boutiques and jewelers, to homewares, gourmet foods, sweet stores, souvenir shops and much more. There’s plenty treat yourself to or enjoy a little window shopping.

With so much to see, do and eat, Hillarys Boat Harbour makes an ideal location for an easy, close-to-home weekend away. You can find quality accommodation right at the harbour, Nautica Residences Hillarys is opposite AQWA and provides modern self-contained apartments and studios. As well as Sorrento Quay being on the doorstep, it also offers a pool and spa.
