Fun fact: The town of Toodyay was originally called Newcastle. By the early 1900s, so much of the town’s mail was being incorrectly delivered to Newcastle in New South Wales! This amusing mix-up led to a name change, and Toodyay was born. The history of this Western Australian country town is rich and intriguing, and one place that beautifully embodies this history is Toodyay Manor.
Located on the town’s main road, Stirling Terrace, Toodyay Manor is a beautiful guest house. The recently renovated spot offers a unique and charming place to stay for travellers exploring the Avon Valley region. This establishment holds a fascinating connection to the town’s history, as it was once the old Newcastle Hotel, later the Toodyay Tavern.
The buildings beautiful architecture reflects the elegance of its time. Built in 1862, this historical building has been lovingly renovated to create the welcoming Toodyay Manor. Its French aesthetic, adds a touch of romance and sophistication to the stay. The attention to detail in the décor and furnishings creates a warm atmosphere that makes you feel right at home.
Accommodation options at Toodyay Manor are diverse, catering to a range of preferences and needs. Whether you prefer suites, rooms with ensuites, or accessible ground floor rooms and bathrooms, you’ll find a comfortable and well-appointed space to rest and rejuvenate. I stayed in the “Single Suite Garden View” room.
The cosy room has plush carpet, a very comfortable King Single bed, and quality bed linen.
There’s an ensuite with shower (good pressure), sink with mirror and toilet.
There are tea and coffee making facilities, a TV with Netflix, split system air-conditioner/heater, free wifi, and bar fridge.
Other amenities include a guest kitchen, guest library, secure off-street parking and laundry (if required).
Take a stroll around the grounds, which were once the old beer garden.
Beyond the chic interior, Toodyay Manor boasts an excellent location too. Situated just a short walk from Toodyay’s pubs, cafes, gift shops, museums, and of course the famous Toodyay bakery, guests have easy access to all that this lovely West Aussie town has to offer.
If you’re seeking unique and comfortable accommodation in the Avon Valley region, Toodyay Manor is a must-visit destination. With its charming French aesthetic, ties to the town’s history, and convenient location, it offers a blend of comfort and nostalgia for travellers looking to explore Toodyay’s past and present. I’d definitely stay there again.
