WOW Illusions Review
We had an overcast and cool day whilst on holiday in Margaret River, so needed to find an indoor activity to keep our grandkids amused. After a quick google search we found WOW Illusions, Margaret River’s newest tourist attraction just 15 minutes up the road in Metricup.
Opened in March 2020 the attraction is packed with puzzling interactive exhibits and displays that play tricks with your mind and are fun for the whole family.
Easy to find with its very colourful building on Harmans Mill Road, entry is through the Margaret River Nuts & Cereals Gift Shop where we got waylaid browsing the huge variety of nuts and mueslis (including a pick and mix your own muesli display) and a great selection of tempting local jams and products.
After entering the building we set off to the first exhibit, The Gravity Defying Room: this room is accessed by walking up a steep slope, but when you enter the room your whole perspective is turned on its head. The room has been designed to challenge your senses, with balls and waterfalls travelling uphill and ledges that have you standing at unbelievable angles and leaves you with the feeling that you are fighting gravity to keep upright, probably not advised for people who suffer vertigo or are unsteady on their feet, but lots of fun.
Other exhibits include another room that distorts your view of the people inside making them seem smaller and taller depending on which side of the room they are stood at.
There are a couple of mazes to tackle, one is a mirror maze and the other a surprisingly tricky wooden gate maze.
Alongside the rooms and mazes are clever 3D painted interactive artworks, that when photographed make fabulous photos to show to your friends.
Even the toilet has been given the Illusion treatment, the bathroom has floor to ceiling windows with a one way view, overlooking the picnic area: it takes a leap of faith to use the bathroom, but we can confirm that you can’t see into the bathroom.
Because it was a miserable day we didn’t stay for a picnic, but there is a children’s playground and lots of room to kick a ball or spread your a picnic rug. Another alternative is the onsite cafe that serves hot and cold drinks, toastier, cakes and ice creams.
The whole family agreed that WOW Illusions was a great place to spend a few hours, and the grandkids even asked if we could return before the end of the holidays.
