Located in the western dining precinct at Karrinyup Shopping Centre, Super Tetsudo is a fun and lively place to stop for a meal while taking a break from shopping. With Myer, David Jones and countless speciality stores nearby, it is the perfect spot to recharge before heading back for “just one more look” around the shops.
Inside, the atmosphere is energetic and entertaining from the moment you walk in. Sushi plates circle continuously along the train, while freshly cooked hot dishes arrive via an automated train carriage running above the sushi line itself. There is also a robot waiter gliding around the restaurant collecting plates and delivering dishes, which adds a playful and futuristic feel to the experience.

The ordering system is simple to use. You can either grab plates directly from the sushi train or order hot dishes and speciality items from the tablet at your table.

We sampled a range of hot and cold dishes during our visit, but one of the real standouts was the caramelised salmon nigiri. This delicious sushi featured a thin layer of salmon placed over sushi rice, with the top lightly caramelised and blowtorched for a slightly smoky, melt-in-your-mouth finish. Simple, but incredibly tasty.

Dessert was another highlight. We tried the Taiyaki, the famous fish-shaped Japanese dessert filled with sweet red bean paste. Warm and crispy on the outside with a soft centre, it was comforting and surprisingly addictive.

Next time we visit, we have already decided we will be trying the custard-filled Taiyaki version. Although the tempura ice cream also sounds tempting… and so does the black sesame ice cream.
One thing to note is that Super Tetsudo does not take reservations and there is often a queue out the front. Thankfully, the line usually moves quickly due to the fast turnover of diners. However, during school holidays the restaurant can become extremely busy, so if you prefer a quieter dining experience, it may be worth avoiding peak holiday times.

Super Tetsudo is a great casual dining option for anyone who enjoys Japanese food, variety and a little bit of fun with their meal.
