The Little Bay (formally Bay 33) is a brand new cafรฉ on West Coast Drive which opened in December 2018. The busy spot is already very popular, to the point that you may need to wait for a table. We arrived with no booking and are happy to be placed on a waitlist for a table. We’re advised by the friendly waitperson it should take around 15 minutes. There’s a small waiting area at the entrance, where we sat. Little Bay takes bookings for tables of 5 or more.
The cafรฉ is full of green indoor plants, and has a minimal, coastal feel. The full dining room is pretty noisy and has a good atmosphere.ย There’s a little seating outside, under umbrellas too. We sit at a table by the open window. Luckily, it’s soon closed, as the sea breeze is in. Weโre given lunch menus, where thereโs bruschetta, avo and hummus toast, burger, salad, brisket sandwiches and pasta dishes on offer.
Drinks
I tried the berry and rosehip iced tea, which was a special for the day. The summery drink was good, but tasted too watery, like the tea needed to steep for longer.
My husband enjoyed a pot of English Breakfast tea.
Food
My husband something quite different… a black burger! The trendy karage burger ($23) is brimming with Japanese inspired fried chicken, mizuna, lemon aioli and crispy fried lotus root on a tasty charcoal brioche bun. Edamame (soy beans) are on the side โ it was a nice change to chips! He loved this very different take on a traditional chicken burger.
I picked an old favourite – fish and chips ($24). I was delighted with the freshness and the huge portion, with not one, but two pieces of hoki. The beer battered hoki was fresh, tasty and plentiful, served with hand cut chips, as well as pickled onions, a slice of bread and remoulade.
The Little Bay is great addition to the Watermans Bay. Thereโs delicious food thatโs both well cooked and well-priced, and a beachy, friendly feel.
