HALO Rooftop Tour at Optus Stadium Review
Do you want to see Optus Stadium from a whole new perspective? Well, now you can with the long-awaited HALO Optus Stadium rooftop tour.
HALO invites you to take your seat 42 metres above the ground and experience the stadium from a perspective few will ever see.
Optus Stadium was designed by the world-renowned stadium architects Populous, and it’s the first stadium in the Southern Hemisphere to be built this century. It’s been designed to be the most socially and environmentally sustainable major sports facility in the world.
HALO is a 2-hour tour that takes you from the 5th floor of the Optus Stadium, up 78 steps to the rooftop area. From the rooftop, you’ll be able to take in the breathtaking 360-degree views of the city.
You should have a general level of fitness and be physically and medically fit to take the HALO tour. Participants need to be aged 8 and over and a minimum of 1.2 metres tall and over 30kgs in weight to take part in the tour. A maximum of 3 children per adult is permitted. If you are over 75 years of age or pregnant you must also submit the Medical Form signed by your GP, no later than 3 days prior to your tour.
The tour starts at the Ozone office, located next to the City View Stadium Café. Here you’ll meet your friendly Optus Stadium guide and suit up in a unique jumpsuit and safety harness. It is essential to wear light and comfy clothing plus enclosed flat shoes. If the Perth sun is shining then it gets very bright on the roof so it is important to wear sunglasses. A safety cord will be given to you to attach your sunglasses around your neck. All belongings must be left in the lockers located in the briefing room. You cannot take your phone or camera on the tour, the tour guide will take all photos.
Once you are suited and booted, you are taken by lift to the 5th level of Optus Stadium. From there, you enter a stairwell to climb the steps up to the rooftop area. The stairs are open grates, so if you fear heights, don’t look down!
The tour leaders are a font of knowledge about the stadium and entertain you throughout the tour with stories and interesting facts. You’ll learn all about the stadium’s construction and get behind the scenes info on what happens on game day.
Once you reach the rooftop, you are clipped into their state-of-the-art safety system. You are locked onto a rail on the roof at all times. From there, you will make your way around the rooftop perimeter with your group, taking in the magnificent 360-degree views.
Halfway around the roof, you’ll come to the highest seats in the stadium. On game days, as part of a special tour, you can watch one-quarter of the match from these seats which have to be the best in the house!
Here, if you wish, you can also become a daredevil and take a half step off the platform to lean out, hands-free, over the edge of the roof facing the pitch! It makes for a spectacular photo opportunity which your tour guide will capture.
After you have recovered from your little bit of stunt action, you’ll carry on making your way around the rooftop until you have completed the circuit of the roof.
At the end of the tour, you’ll be able to view the pictures taken by your guide and select any you wish to purchase. The tour cost includes one printed souvenir group photo and an Ozone branded cap.
HALO Tours run daily from 2.30pm – 6pm. The evening tour is said to be pretty spectacular as the Stadium and Matagurup Bridge is lit up.
