In the small country town of Manjimup is a lovely coffee shop where they roast their own beans. The Southern Roasting Co. is a small boutique speciality coffee roasters on the main street where you are guaranteed to get a great cup of coffee and a wholesome snack.
We popped in on a rainy day, hoping for some respite from the wet weather, and were greeted by that wonderful aroma of freshly ground coffee. The staff project that small town hospitality, and were chatting away to the locals as they worked. We ordered at the counter, and I decided that something sweet was the order of the day so chose homemade banana bread, toasted and topped with maple mascarpone and berries, the perfect antidote to the miserable day outside. My husband opted for an egg, bacon and cheese toasted sandwich with caramelised onion, which he declared very tasty, the coffee was rich and smooth.
Whilst waiting for our order to be delivered I had a browse through the small retail section of the shop where there was a wonderful selection of teas and of course coffee beans. In addition, there were gift items such as coffee mugs, chocolates, preserves and bags and baskets.
The coffee shop runs a “pay it forward” scheme called “1 cup of kindness at a time”, where you can purchase an extra coffee and they will donate it to someone less fortunate, it’s wonderful to see such community spirit in a small country town; it would be lovely to see this scheme implemented around the city areas where there is a big problem with homelessness and poverty.
