Dusit Dheva, Hillarys

A multi-award-winning Thai restaurant has just opened in Sorrento Quay.

The Dusit Dheva has closed its doors in Northbridge to take up residence in the northern suburbs. With two Gold Plates and named Australia’s best Thai restaurant in 2018 – Dusit Dheva is a welcome addition to Hillarys Boat Harbour.

Although more casual than the Northbridge restaurant, the inside décor is understated with Thai beaches and long-tail boats featured on the wall murals. There is an outside area, which has good views of the Hillarys beaches.

My husband and I visited the Dusit for a late lunch on a Friday afternoon.  The restaurant has a good choice of Thai favourites on the menu but a list of lunch specials attracted our attention and we settled on Prawn Pad Thai with noodles and Stir-fried chilli and basil with chicken. All nine lunch specials are a very well-priced $12.90.

We also shared four Spring rolls ($8).

I’m happy to report that the food was very good. Spring rolls are spring rolls everywhere but we enjoyed our starter. We did, however, make the mistake of not telling our smiling server that we wanted some time between our starter and main course so they were delivered at almost the same time.

However, that was the only glitch. Both lunch dishes were beautifully presented and came in good-sized portions. My husband reckoned it was one of the best Thai dishes he had eaten, outside of Bangkok and my chicken dish was delicious – just a tad spicy for my taste buds but I did enjoy the flavour.

There are four dinner specials (served on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays) including Soft shell crab with watermelon, shallots and a mint coriander dressing ($18) and Roast duck with spiced red curry ($24).

Only soft drinks are being served until the end of January when the restaurant is expecting their liquor license to come through. In the meantime, BYO is available (with dinner only).

The restaurant does not have restrooms but public toilets are right next door. Parking is easy at both the north and south car parks at Hillarys but if you are going on a weekend – go early as the spaces fill up fast.

Dusit Dheva will be a big attraction with its excellent food and reasonable prices. It is on the north side of Sorrento Quay next to The Breakwater.
